bob > The commercial backband that I'd put on this kayak would be pushed downward by my sprayskirt and pinch skin on my butt/lower back. I couldn't find one that was narrow enough to avoid the problem so I made one from a 5 gallon bucket that I got at Home Depot.

bob > There is a double flange at the top of the bucket that assists in keeping the strap in place against the plastic.

bob > The strap and hardware came from the old setup.

bob > Rough up the plastic before applying contact cement.

bob > The piece of closed cell foam that will attach to the plastic.

bob > I taped off area's where I didn't want contact cement.

bob > The finished product will not win any beauty contests but is functional and light.
